FALMOUTH & Camborne Carpet Bowls League held its Finals Night & Presentation of Trophies at Holmans Social Club.

A good crowd of over 90 gathered to watch the annual finals of the knock out competitions. The evening was hosted by the league chairman Jack Hancock, with the guest for the evening, Alan Foster, who served as secretary to the league for 21 years.

The evening kicked off with the husband and wife final with Brian & Carol Jeffries (Mylor) playing Cliff & Pat Selby (Holmans). Some steady bowling by Mylor kept the score ticking over, and despite two excellent saving shots by Pat, Mylor ran away 11-3 winners.

In the singles competition, Harry Coult (Falmouth) played Gerry Fisher (Redruth). Gerry got off to a flying start with maximums of 4 on the first two ends. It was the 7th end before Harry could score, picking up 3 shots. But Gerry proved to be at his best, winning the match 14-3.

After the interval, the triples contest saw Brian Parkes, Dot Dunstan and Jenny Hosking (Chacewater) playing Harry Coult, Doug Moyle & John Roberts (Falmouth). Chacewater were running away with the match, leading 12-0 after 6 ends. The Falmouth team then woke up, scoring a maximum of 6 on the 7th end, followed by 4 on the 8th end. On the 9th, Falmouth were holding 3 before Brian Parkes trailed the jack for a 6 shot conversion, which was enough to win it for Chacewater.

They made steady progress, saving a possible Mawnan score on the 4th end, and then picking up a 4 on the 6th end followed by a maximum 6 shots on the 7th to win the match.

The league trophies were also presented - Division 1 Champions were Redruth, with Holmans runners up. Redruth also won the Knock-Out Cup with Mawnan Runners Up. Division 2 winners were Mabe (only in their second year in the league), with Bickford “A” as Runners Up.
