AN HISTORIC car rally navigator from Devoran produced a superb performance in an international field at the Paris-Vienna rally.

Dennis Greenslade, aged 74, took part in the race - based on the original route used in 1902 - which covers some of the most competitive rally roads in Europe.

This year's event started at Chateau de Bourron, Fontainebleau, finishing some five days and 1,850 kilometres later in Vienna.

Using a 1967 Volvo Amazon 123GT David Alderson, from Silverstone, and Dennis finished second overall, second classic and won their class against 63 competitors from Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Denmark, USA, Holland, Germany, Norway, Luxembourg and the UK.

The route traversed France to reach the Vosges Mountains, containing a series of hair-pinned climbs used in the Monte Carlo rallies, prior to crossing the Rhine and entering Germany.

There were a series of timed regularity tests on public roads throughout the event, featuring speed tests on driver training circuits and closed speed hill climbs in the Austrian Alps.

This included the multi-hairpinned and renowned Stoderzinken hill climb used in Austrian championships.
