The Falmouth Golf Club pairing of Robert Eccleston and Rob Brown did the club proud as they won the prestigious Cornwall Golf Union Lord Lieutenants Trophy at Looe Golf Club last Sunday.

The duo played steadily to total 22 points on the front nine. Robert Eccleston picked up a useful birdie at the 15th before it was left to Rob Brown to rescue two invaluable points on the final two holes after both had found problems with their tee shots for a total of 43 stableford points. Runner up were China Fleet pairing Lewis and Wayne Woolaway just one point behind. Pete Bradbury and Paul Crowther from Porthpean Golf Club finished third on countbacks with 41 points.

On Saturday Falmouth Golf Club staged the Gibbons. Evans and Hext. Trevena Cups. Paul Collins was the star of the show winning both the 0-12 handicap section Hext 36 hole scratch competition and Trevena 36 hole handicap medal with two gross round of 76 for a fine total of 152 and a net of 140.

Nick Chinn was runner up in the Hext with and aggregate of 154 just pipping Dave Holland into third who returned a gross total also of 154. Runner up in the Trevena was was Dave Holland with 142 and third was Paul Huckle with a net aggregate of 145.

Simon Foxhall won the Gibbons (medal) Cup for 13-20 handicappers with a superb net 61 including birdies at the 11th and 16th holes. Runner up was Peter Lewis with a fine net 64 and third was Chris Beer with a net 65.

The Evans Cup (stableford) for 21-28 handicappers was well won by Richard Wilkins who carded 40 points. Second was Roger Dunstan with 36 points and third was Tony Deacon with 33 points.
