SIXTY players at Mullion Golf Club enjoyed fair weather on the first day, followed by a challenging southerly wind on the final day competing for the Kellaway Cup and the Nicholls Cup.

There was also a hole in one on the first hole on day one by Neils Joberg, who supplied the whisky in the club house for all to enjoy.

Mullion Seniors Section collected £100 for the RAF Benevolent Trust this week when they played for the Jack Cook Cup. There was a strong field who enjoyed sunshine and a gentle breeze to play greensomes format with drawn partners.

On Sunday, the weather stayed bright and sunny for Captain’s Day. Captain Andy Holmes hosted the event, from the morning competition to the presentation which was followed by an excellent carvery in the clubhouse. The Captain’s Day Trophy was won by William Giddings with 81 -21 =60 on the last nine holes from Michael Jacka 68 -08 =60. Jess Willard was third 82 -21 =61, Scott Willett fourth 68 -06 =62, Lester Pickhaver fifth 81 -17 =54 (L9), John Murrish sixth 78 -14 =64 (L9) and Joe Hill seventh 86 -22 =64. Dave Rollason was nearest the Pin, and John Warden had the longest drive.

Lady Captain Anna Harry held her Captain’s Day event in lovely, unexpected sunny weather. The ladies played a Stableford competition, which was followed by the presentation of prizes and a delightful meal in the Clubhouse with friends and guests. Results of the Competition: 1/Carole Jones (38 points); 2/Anne Griffiths (36); 3/Margaret Richardson (34); 4/Maureen Cuthbertson (31); 5/Linda Dunford (31). Alison Jacka had the Longest Drive; Helen Carson nearest the line, and Margaret Richardson was nearest the pin. Best Front Nine was won by Barbara Wilkins, Best Back Nine by Judy Harris, Best Middle Nine by Marilyn Jennings and Best Hidden Holes by Ann Seabrook. Special thanks to Amanda and her team at Haulfryn for all their kind assistance and hard work on the course and in the kitchen to make the day run smoothly.

Jackie Quick won the Ladies’ 9-hole Stableford on Wednesday with 15 points. Sue Harvey was second with 14 and Ann Seabrook third with 13 on countback from Lily Hiscott and Judy Harris respectively.

Next Saturday the Ladies play for their Monthly Medal incorporating the Scratch Salver, and on Sunday the Men play for the Praa Sands Putter.

On Wednesday the Ladies play in the morning, and there is the Seniors Monthly Medal in the afternoon.
