TWO Swallows of Helston Gymnastics Club members have had success on a national level.

Matt Heaney, aged 14, and Elliot Bullen, aged 13, competed at the National NDP grades in Birmingham, which gives gymnasts their British ranking and also forms part of the selection process for the GB performance pathway.

Representing the South West against gymnasts from across England, Scotland and Wales, on Friday Matt became the 2016 National Club level 6 champion and his team also won gold.

On Sunday Elliot gained silver medal position in the Elite Level 5 competition and his team also won gold overall. The SW teams did so well this weekend that the region won the Bob Currier Trophy for the competition as the most successful region in the UK.

Elliot's success has now secured him a fourth year in the GB team, and Matt has been given an invitational to attend training at Lilleshall National Training Centre next month.

The boys have had an amazing six weeks despite flood water causing the gym to close for several weeks, forcing them to

train at other clubs.

The club is now up and running again and will take delivery of its new sprung floor and other replacement items of equipment next week.

The club would like to thank its Elite Gymnast Programme Sponsors Wendron Stoves and Frame UK for assisting these talented young gymnasts. Any businesses interested in becoming part of the programme please contact the club.
