Cornwall County ASA hosted their Intermediate Gala over the weekend for developing & emerging swimmers from clubs across the Duchy.

Carn Brea & Helston Swimming Club sported 37 swimmers who made the entry qualifying times with many experiencing their first high level gala.

They all conquered their nerves and produced some excellent results.

The boys produced some outstanding swimming - Michael Long secured a gold medal in 200m breaststroke, four silver medals in both 50m & 100m breaststroke and backstroke and a bronze in 200 backstroke.

Jowan Kerry established himself as a great butterfly swimmer with two gold medals in 100m and 50m.

The culmination of months of hard training and dedication were rewarded for young Tom Phillips, when he swam a superb 200m Butterfly obtaining a Regional consideration time – alongside three other gold medals and four silvers.

The girls were also on top form securing a good number of podium positions.

Kate Phesse achieved a gold in the 100m back and two silver medals in 100m free and 100m individual medley. Hollie Durrant put in a fantastic effort securing two gold medals in 100m and 50m back, two silver medals in 50m breast and 100m free and two bronze medals in 100m breast and 50 fly.

The youngest swimmers were also pushing for the top positions with Ellen Stokes producing great swims throughout the weekend. Showing great promise as an all round, versatile young swimmer she achieved five silver and one bronze medal in various distances and strokes.

Senara Rodda also shone through with 1 gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Kai Handford went the distance with a gold in the 200 back and also silver in the 50 back.

These swimmers are all showing great promise and their hard work and great attitude in training will bring great success in future competitions.
