Cornwall Athletic Club is delighted to announce the appearance of the 1983 London Marathon winner Mike Gratton at next month's Summer Turkey Trot.

Gratton will not only take part in the four-mile road race on Wednesday, July 5, he will also present the prizes on behalf of the host club and one of the event sponsors At Your Pace.

Gratton won the third London Marathon in a time of 2:09:43 which ranks him 14th on the UK All Time Marathon list, with only the top five All Time UK men having run a sub 2:09:00 time.

The Cornwall AC ladies' team captain Emma Stepto said: “ It is a huge honour for us to welcome Mike and we know he will be impressed by the wonderful running community spirit and talent we have in Cornwall. Hopefully his appearance at the race will give our entries a boost this year.”

The 18th Summer Turkey Trot, round nine of the Cornwall Grand Prix Series, starts at 7pm from Tricky's, Redruth and is likely to attract more than 450 runners. Postal Entries close on Thursday, June 29 and should be sent to the Race Secretary, 7 Lighthouse Hill, Portreath, Redruth, TR16 4LH,

The entry fee for members of an England Athletics affiliated club is £10 and for those who are not members of a running club, the fee is £12. You can also enter on the night at Tricky's. Registration opens at 5.30pm and the entry fee is £12 (club runners) and £14 (non club runners).

There will be a memento for all runners, donated by one of the race sponsors, Gould Electronics (www.gould.co.uk) and a wide range of spot prizes kindly donated by Helston’s specialist running Shop, At Your Pace (www.at-your-pace.co.uk)

There will also be a full range of individual, age group and team prizes for men and ladies, plus a post race barbecue and bar.
