The Flying Fifteen UK National Championships are coming to Falmouth this year for the first time in over a decade, and the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club is organising the event. These 15 foot sleek racing boats built for a crew of two have a unique design that makes them extremely fast but very stable and enables them to handle all types of conditions. The regatta will take place over four days in late September with the fleet being dry sailed from the Water Sports Centre.

The local fleet of Flying Fifteens has been growing over the last three to four years and numbers are increasing every year, with Abi Rickard & Nick Woodley of the RCYC spearheading the fleet growth by starting up POFFFA, the local Association.

The title sponsors of the event are Carrs Land Rover (www.carrs.truro.landrover.co.uk) who are building on Land Rover’s global racing sponsorship of Sir Ben Ainslie’s and GB’s America’s Cup team. Sir Ben is a member of the Royal Cornwall and a local man, who perfected his sport in waters around Falmouth. Who knows if this year’s Flying Fifteen regatta will reveal another future hero of the racing?

Tre-Concepts are sponsoring the GPS live coverage of the racing. This is an exciting and new technical addition to the UK National Championships where a GPS tracker is fitted to every competitors boat allowing the position of the individual boats in the racing to be seen live on screen. Other sponsors are ZHIK clothing, Craft Cover Marine Insurance.
