Falmouth 6, Caradon ll 1

Falmouth beat Caradon 2 to go through to the quarter finals of the Cornwall Cup on Saturday.

Falmouth were very slow off the mark scoring only one goal from right wing Rachel Tatlow in the first half. A lucky break saw Caradon quickly equalise.

Falmouth found form in the second half with Rachel Tatlow, Amy Shaw, Vic Pryor, Clare Hudson and Amy Bucknole all putting the ball past the Caradon keeper.

Falmouth II 4, CSM 3

Falmouth 2’s were drawn at home to local rivals CSM in the first round of the County Cup.

The students made a good start and put pressure on the Falmouth defence in the first quarter of the match but were unable to break through the hard working and determined defence of Fran Rowe, Lucy Rogers, Danny Burnford and Evie Roberts. Player of the Match, June Moore made numerous excellent saves in the Falmouth goal and Evie Roberts cleared two off the line to frustrate CSM.

Falmouth took the lead, against the run of play, when Emily James sent a defence splitting ball through to Alice Bowman who calmly beat two players and pushed the ball into goal, beyond the reach of the keeper. This gave Falmouth encouragement and the rest of the first half was more evenly matched.

In the second half CSM continued to press and the Falmouth defence had to maintain their efforts. There were chances at both ends with Bowman going close for Falmouth. CSM scored a well-deserved goal five minutes from time and with the score at 1-1 the match went to penalty flicks.

Both keepers made good saves and after five flicks it was still even so it proceeded to sudden death flicks. Falmouth won the battle of the flicks 3-2 with Alice Bowman (2) and Emily James making successful conversions, taking the final score to 4-3.
