Double celebrations at the 40th Anniversary Silver Oyster Race.

Very strong and squally north westerly winds proved a problem for the Mylor Yacht Club race committee boat, with one severe squall causing her to drag her anchor into the main channel of the Carrick Roads. So the race was started using the club safety RIB.

The competing Oyster dredging boats handled the conditions very well, not only the strong winds but also picking their way over the oyster beds during a very low tide.

The two non-licensed boats Endeavour (Ollie Graffy) and Dolly(Barry Prynn) had a great race with each other, even though they were in different classes, which they both won .

The Silver Oysters which are presented to the winners of the Licensed classes were won as follows.

In the small licensed class Veruna (Timmy Heard) sailed well in the difficult conditions and was first. In the large licensed class Holly Anne (Dawn Franklin) was first and Alf Smythers (Ranger) was second .

Not only was this the 40th anniversary Mylor Yacht Club Silver Oyster Race but it was the 40th wedding anniversary for Sue and Arfie Treneer.

After the racing prizes had been presented, Sue and Arfie received a presentation from the Falmouth Oyster dredgers and Mylor Yacht Club followed by a rousing chorus of three cheers, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the Silver Oyster Race and the sport of sailing throughout their lives.
