Local Blokart sailor Peter Williams from Penryn, has recently returned from the British Open Blokart Sailing Championships at Llanbedr Airfield in North Wales.

The event attracted 45 karts from all over the world, with competitors not only coming from all the UK but also several from Holland, Belgium, Ireland and one even flying over from Australia to take part.

Peter who is supported by Graham Bobin from the Penzance-based Blokart specialists Speedsail UK, had a very satisfying weekend in only his second major race event, having only taken up Blokarting last year.

He finished the weekend tying secon in class on 19 points with Martin Letters from Ireland, but losing out on count back, so finishing third.

The pair were only beaten by the very experienced Paul Watson, from Australia. Between them they had some very close and exciting racing.

Twelve races were held in total over the two days, and despite the wind only averaging around 15 mph, speeds in excess of 30mph were achieved.

Although there are several different weight categories, Karts with the same specification are all raced together and on Sunday Peter was delighted to get two outright race wins, beating all 22 of the Production category Blokarts.
