A 12-year-old Truro High pupil continues to prove her mettle in the art of swordplay having been honoured with selection for a national fencing squad.
Year 7 Melissa Jane, from Perranwell, has been selected to compete with the England U13 Fencing Squad.
The young fencer’s call-up comes after she was ranked fourth nationally in her age group.
She will now travel with the England team to Poland next March to take part in Challenge Wratislavia.
This prestigious tournament will see top young fencers from across the world coming together to throw down the gauntlet on an international stage.
Melissa started fencing when she was just six years old using a soft foam sabre. She trains with Truro Fencing Club both at the school and at the club’s headquarters in town.
Delighted mum Allison said: “I’m so proud, I think I screamed rather loudly when she opened the letter. We are over the moon and so excited for her.”
