Continuing our series which looks at minority sports, we feature park running, a 5k run in beautiful surroundings, for runners of all abilities

Cornwall is without a doubt a beautiful place to live, writes George Fortey.
With idyllic countryside and a stunning coastline, it’s easy to take for granted living here and perhaps miss out on what Cornwall has to offer.
Sport may not seem a conventional way of making the most out of Cornwall’s beauty, but for many people, running has become a great way to take in these sights.
Runners are able to gain great health benefits such as, increasing lung function, relieving stress and reducing the risk of heart disease, all whilst enjoying the Cornish outdoors.
One organisation which has been particularly successful at setting up runs that emphasise the beauty of the county is Park Run.
Park Run is a group that uses volunteers to set up runs for people all over the UK every weekend.
The nearest runs can be found at Trelissick gardens, on the banks of the River Fal, near Truro, or at the Penrose National Trust estate near Helston.
Both runs are 5k which you can complete at your own pace, giving you a great feel for the sport of running.
The route going through Trelissick features a fantastic woodland trail alongside the Fal river, taking in breath taking views of the estuary as you go.
The Penrose route takes in the beautiful natural trust woodland, featuring glimpses of Loe pool.
These runs take place simultaneously at 9am every Saturday, with all ages and abilities welcome to take part.
For more information please visit about these runs and others around Cornwall, visit www.parkrun.org.uk or find their respective facebook pages.
Perhaps, you would like to use a charitable cause to give running a go?
On Sunday, May 13, Falmouth is hosting the race for life event in aid of Cancer Research UK.
This female-only event has been raising money to help combat cancer for many years now and has contributed over £2m pounds to research, right here in the South West.
The 5k run will start at Gylly beach car park at 11am. If you would like details on how to join please visit www.raceforlife.org or call 0300 123 0770.
