After the disappointment of last week's cancelled races, Hayle Runners have been out and about and making up for lost time.

Emily Bennett celebrated her 17th birthday last month and had planned her debut half marathon at the Bath half marathon last weekend.

She could not have run in an earlier race as the rules insist you have to be at least 17 years of age to compete in an half marathon.

Unfortunately the race was cancelled due to the poor weather.

As luck would have it Emily, along with her mum Charlotte (club coach) and Julia Burns (women's captain) were able to get a late entry in to the Bideford Half Marathon in North Devon.

They were joined at the race by team mates James Manning and Michelle Roskilly.

It was a good day for the Hayle Runners with Charlotte leading the team home with her time of 1 hour 37 minutes 11 seconds taking third place in her 45-49 age group.

James was close behind in a time of 1 hour 38 minutes 45 seconds, Julia Burns finished in 1 hour 44 minutes 55 seconds and Emily’s debut finish time was a fantastic 1 hour 46 minutes.

Michelle Roskilly achieved an improvement on her personal best by two minutes finishing a time of 1 hour 55 minutes 10 seconds.

Closer to home some of their colleagues were taking part in the Great Flat Lode 10k race around Carn Brea and a number of them won age category prizes.

Irwin Humphrey lead the team home and won his 55-59 age group, Gail Aspden was 6th women overall, Louise Ollivier also won her age category, Mike Baldwin took third place in his and Mike Wright finished in a creditable 1 hour 19 minutes.
