Bude 0, Falmouth 1

Falmouth secured the South Division title with a 1-0 win at Bude on Saturday.

From the whistle Falmouth were quick off the mark and some accurate passes led to an early shot which the Bude keeper saved.

Falmouth kept the pressure on for much of the first half and created several goal scoring opportunities but Bude’s ‘keeper was having an outstanding game and was able to save every shot.

Bude made some threatening runs down the wings but the strong defence of Natalie Oliver, Laura Heather, Faye Ivall and Megan Cookson prevented Bude from getting a shot at goal.

Laura Heather and Faye Ivall linked superbly well and with some quick passing amongst themselves were able to get the ball out of Falmouth’s half and up to Vic Pryor.

Vic skilfully dribbled around players and into Bude’s D and smashed the ball into the corner of the goal out of the keeper's reach to put Falmouth 1-0 up.

The second half was much the same as the first half with the forwards Alice Bowman, Rachael Tatlow and Amy Shaw making some quick attacking runs into the D only to have all shots stopped by the Bude’s keeper. Bude upped their game and put a lot of players forward to try and upset Falmouth’s promotion hopes.

A few shots were fired at goalie Amie Cadwell who calmly dismissed the ball wide.

The defence stood strong and player of the match Megan Cookson made some crucial tackles to stop Bude from scoring. The final whistle went and Falmouth were delighted to have won the game and secured promotion to Premier 2B.

Falmouth would like to thank their sponsors Heather & Lay Estate agents for their support during their successful season.

Falmouth ll 3, Plym Valley 3

Falmouth fought back from a 3-1 deficit at half time to claim a well-deserved point in their final Trelawney 1 league match of the season.

Falmouth went straight into attack at the start of the game and after several penalty corners they scored from open play when Suzanne Bull was in a great position in front of goal to beat the ‘keeper when a ball was crossed from the left.

Plym Valley gradually worked their way into the game and became more dangerous on the break.

They were awarded a penalty corner and the initial shot was well saved by ‘keeper June Moore but they pounced on the rebound and pushed it through the defence to equalise.

Three minutes later the visitors took the lead with a well worked corner routine. Plym Valley’s third goal was from another penalty corner, a well struck shot was unluckily deflected over the line by a Falmouth defender.

After the break, Falmouth came out knowing that they could change the game around and showed determination to do this. The Falmouth mid-field supported the attack well and put pressure on the Plym Valley defence.

Molly Phillips made a good run from the left, into the centre and took a shot at goal, from the edge of the ‘D’, which beat the ‘keeper.

After further good attacking play Lucy Coombs was about to take a shot when she was taken out by the Plym Valley ‘keeper who was yellow carded and sent off for 5 minutes.

Danyelle Fry scored from the penalty flick with a strong low shot into the corner to bring the score to 3-3. Falmouth piled on the pressure but the stand-in ‘keeper and the rest of the defence held firm to deny Falmouth.

The final stages of the match saw chances at both ends but neither team were able to add to their score.

Falmouth: June Moore, Lizzie Shannon, Evie Roberts, Danyelle Fry, Hanna Brixton, Franny Rowe, Eloise Ireland, Molly Phillips, Katie Humphries, Imogen Robson, Lucy Coombs, Bella Osman, Lucy Coombs, Suzanne Bull.
