THE mother of a Truro Fencing Club member has put new meaning into "going the extra mile".

For the past two years Emma Fashokun has raised funds for the club's Truro Gold Foundation, which aims to help young fencers get established and provide essential equipment so the club can continue to maintain its excellent reputation.

This year however, Emma, mother of Maia Fashokun, who is currently the 2017 Cadet Women's British number 1, decided to up the challenge and set herself four marathons in four consecutive days.

Friends, family and other members of the club decided to help out and encourage her by joining in one of her routes at some stage, which covered over 27 miles each day, starting at Tamar Bridge on Day 1 and ending at Land's End on Day 4.

Despite challenging weather at times, Emma kept on walking and she was rewarded by sponsorship not just from individuals, but from local businesses from around the area who were all named on the T shirts that were worn by anyone joining in the walk with her.

Money is still coming in, but so far she has raised a record £1,800.
