Falmouth's hopes of finishing the South Division season unbeaten were dashed in their final game, as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Tiverton White Eagles.

Falmouth travelled to Tiverton for their final league game of the season with promotion already under their belts. They knew they would be in for a battle and they weren’t wrong.

They had several strong attacks in the first half but unfortunately every decision in the D seemed to go against them. Falmouth worked hard to continue to play their own game but it was White Eagles who took a one-goal lead into half-time after converting a penalty flick.

Falmouth knew the second half would continue to be a challenge and they would have to keep their cool. Player of the match Laura Heather was once again outstanding on the left side of the pitch, winning every ball that came her way.

Faye Ivall and Nicola Hinton played several hard balls accurately into the D but were unfortunately on the receiving end of some questionable decisions.

The second goal came from a strike at the top of Falmouth’s defensive D which soared high across the D and into Falmouth’s net.

Falmouth were never going to give up and continued to use their quick passing to move the ball up the pitch until they were eventually awarded a short corner.

The ball found Clare Hudson at the top of the D who skilfully beat the approaching defender and played the ball accurately back to Amy Shaw, who found the backboard with a powerful first time sweep.

Falmouth’s spirits were lifted and they were quick to get straight back on the attack. The ball found Tatum Godwin who drilled the ball across the D for a sliding deflection by Amy Shaw to level the scores.

With both teams pushing for a win late on, White Eagles were constantly denied by Megan Cookson’s strength at the back, which eliminated any possible shots on goal.

But with just a few minutes left on the clock White Eagles were awarded another short corner which found its way over the top of the Falmouth sticks and into the net.

Falmouth will look to complete a league and cup double on Saturday when they take on Newquay in the Cornwall Women's Cup final at Penzance at 12pm.
