THERE was another dramatic finish at the JP Motors sponsored medal at Budock Vean Golf Club at the weekend, writes Keith Rashleigh.

Despite the drizzle the scoring was impressive at the sharp end, but also a good percentage failed to complete the course.

With Ian Scorse finishing with a gross 71, net 61, it looked unlikely anyone could match him, but up stepped Rob Gibson to card a sensational net 60. Despite losing a ball on the 17th he managed to drop just the one shot for a crucial bogey-five followed by a par three on the last hole for an impressive gross 36 on the back nine. Third was Chris Mason who also played very well to card a net 62.

Samantha Tolchard had ‘one of those days’ on Wednesday as she returned a remarkable net 50 to win the MacMillan Trophy. Samantha, who is the daughter of Roger and Shirley Mildren who are no strangers to success, had two birdies and five pars including a superb back nine of 38 gross to win by an incredible 16 shots from Gillian Pascoe who returned a net 66. Third was Tricia Blatter with a net 68.

This Sunday is the Grand Open Charity Day for which Budock Vean enjoy a huge reputation for fundraising. Anyone wishing to sponsor the Help for Heroes Charity day should contact the pro-shop on 01326 252102. Club captain Ron Brown has been working hard behind the scenes and has promised a ‘novel’ putting competition, which will run throughout the day. The event will be followed by an auction with Des ‘Flog It’ Sadler, again doing his stuff for charity.
