AFTER their Vinter Cup heroics Falmouth were brought back down to earth with a bump on Saturday, losing their unbeaten record at Trescobeas against St Just.

But captain Adrian Noott said he remained confident about his side’s prospects in the league this season.

Falmouth set the visitors a respectable 221 to win, but Neil Curnow’s century helped St Just chase down the runs and claim a three wicket victory.

“It was bound to happen sooner or later,” said Noott. “We scored 220 and on a normal day we’d have taken that.

“We possibly could have scored a few more, but to be fair Curnow has gone out and scored a hundred chasing. He’s won it for them, we’ve not necessarily lost it.

“It shows that for a team to beat us they’ve really got to step up their game, but we’re not panicking; the run was going to end at some point.”

With Werrington’s shock defeat at Grampound Road, Falmouth actually narrowed the gap on the leaders and are now just three points off top spot in the ECB Premier League.

“It’s all about perspective,” said Noott. “We’re way ahead of where we were last year in terms of points, and we’ve only lost once. We just have to focus on Redruth on Saturday now.”
