FALMOUTH finally got their season up and running on Saturday with a 43 run success over Camborne in the Jolly’s Drinks Premier 50/50 Cup, writes Michael Weeks.

This was after only playing nine overs in their first three games in a weather ruined start to the season.

They currently lie at the top of the West Group table and could still technically qualify for the semi-finals, although Falmouth have a bye on Saturday so it is now out of their hands.

A wash out in the St Just v Redruth game would be enough or for Penzance to be heavily beaten at Camborne, who are presently three points behind but have a game in hand.

On Saturday, they got off to a poor start losing Callum Whittaker, Guy Leathley and Antony Angove with only 20 on the board.

Christian Purchase made 23 and Harry Roberts 17 but the home side struggled to 88-6.

Jordan Thomas made 25 on his home debut and with skipper Sean Hooper hitting 16 they got to 152 in the penultimate over.

Former Falmouth player Jeff Carvelly took four for 24 and South African Louis Delport four for 15 in a tidy ten over spell.

The Camborne innings got off to a poor start when Kevin Roberts was run out for a single by Glyn Furnival.

It soon became 37-5 as the top order was blown away, with Cornwall squad member Furnival taking three for 23 from eight overs.

Delport was the only batsman to make an impact as he reached 30 before being bowled by Angove, as the innings subsided to 76-9.

Carvelly gave some late concern as he added 33 for the last wicket with Dan Hocking.

He made 28 before being bowled by Liam Hoban in the 33rd over at 109 all out.

Angove took three for seven and there was also a wicket each for Thomas and Purchase
