AFTER seeing their opening two games of the season get abandoned, St Gluvias' second team recorded their first win of 2015 on Saturday.

St Just's third team travelled up to Kernick Road for their meeting in Division Four West of the Cornwall Cricket League and it was the hosts who finished the day happier with a relatively comfortable 95 run victory.

Their success was built by a fine batting display which saw the Saints rack up 286-8 in 48 overs with Jack Hesketh getting exactly 100.

Home skipper Richard Bannister blasted 86 in quick time, hitting ten fours and two sixes, as he and Chris Johnson made an opening stand of 113 before the latter was out LBW for 21.

Bannister and Hesketh added 40 runs to the score by the captain was bowled as he looked to smash he was to a century.

Hesketh took charge of the innings from this point as he put pay to any poor balls from St Just, getting to his ton with ten fours and six sixes.

Just a few balls after reaching the landmark, he was bowled out by Sam Luxford Leach, but with the score on 244-4, the feeling was the game had already been won.

Lewis Pegrum, a recent addition to the Saints team, got the early wicket of Terry Addicoat with his fast bowling, but the hosts struggled to pick up more scalps as Paul Jacka and Joe Burton dropped anchor.

Despite this, the big total they had posted by the home side never looked threatened.

There was a slight sense of relief from the Saints though when Burton was caught by Neil Pearce off Hesketh for 21.

Jacka made 74 before getting caught by Bannister off Jacob Turner, who also picked up the wicket of Treve Williams on his way to figures of two for 21.

In Division Five West, the Saints' third team lost by 40 runs at Rosudgeon.

Michael Jacka scored 73 not out for the hosts as they made 186-5 from 40 overs, with Matt Henry picking up three wickets for 31.

Symon Winnan hit 58 runs for the visitors in reply, but it could not see the Saints, who only had ten players available, to victory.
