DESPITE beating them in a convincing manner, Camborne were unable to prevent Penzance from pipping into the Premier 50/50 Cup semi finals over Falmouth.

The club who won promotion to Cornwall Cricket's top division last season were beaten by five wickets on Saturday after being bowled out for 127 in 40 overs.

Their hosts smashed to victory in just 18.5 overs, but Penzance were able to grab four bonus points, split evenly in the batting and bowling departments, to end the group stage ahead of Falmouth by the finest of margins.

Wickets fell at regular intervals for the visitors as Camborne's bowlers got well on top with Daniel Stephens claiming four for 47 off his alloted ten overs.

Penzance found themselves in a perilous position at 76-8, but a ninth wicket partnership of 44 from Charles Goldsworthy and Kyle Moyle helped edge them to a couple of bonus points.

Camborne looked to motor their way to a swift victory but lost five wickets in the process, gifting Penzance what would end up being a crucial two points with Josh Fletcher ending with figures of three for 20.

Top scoring for the hosts was Nick King who hit 34 runs in 33 balls, which included five fours and a six.

In the semi finals, Penzance will travel to East Group winners Werrington on June 28 while St Just host Grampound Road.
