FALMOUTH had to settle for an abandoned game at the Hine Downing Oval on Saturday, writes Michael Weeks.

They did take 12 points from the game however and lie sixth in the table, 20 points behind leaders Werrington.

Set 204 to win, they were 122-3 in the 28th over after Sean Hooper, 15, Antony Angove, 3, and Christian Purchase, 11, had fallen with the score on just 50.

Callum Whittaker, who ended on 42 not out and Stefan Churcher, undefeated on 29, saw the hundred up however before the rain intervened.

Play resumed an hour later, but only lasted for five balls as the wet conditions were deemed too dangerous and play was abandoned at 7pm.

Falmouth might had already forced a result had it not been for some determined Redruth batting.

Having been put in, Jordan Thomas got rid of Harry Bolland for four and Arron Wallace was bowled a run later, at 26-2, by Glyn Furnival.

Thomas then got the prize wicket of Neil Hornbuckle, caught behind for eight before Jack Paull fell to Furnival for nought and when Purchase dismissed Martin Strick, the Reds were 86-5.

Experienced opener Martin Jenkin was batting well at the other end however as he made a fine 74 before being seventh out at 143.

There was more to come as number eight Craig Williams made exactly 50 before being bowled by George Popperwell, putting on 38 for the eighth wicket with young Oli Paull, who made 18.

The innings ended at 203 all out in the 45th over with Thomas taking three for 28 and Furnival, Popperwell and Guy Leathley two each.

On Saturday Falmouth are at Newquay, with the match starting at 1pm.
