AS big matches go none come much bigger than the one at Helston’s Beacon Parc this Saturday, writes Michael Weeks.

They entertain Callington in a top of the table clash in County Division One with both having identical records, winning five games, one abandoned, one cancelled and 53 bonus points each.

Helston continued their impressive start at Ludgvan on Saturday with Mark Jenkin making a chanceless 101 before being sixth out at 209.

This came after openers Dan Jenkin and Ross Leathley had gone with 30 on the board before Chris Martin made 36 in a 73 run partnership with Jenkin for the third wicket.

Tommy Sturgess was run out for five and Gavin Tregenza followed for 21, but Steve Jenkin came to the crease and added 50 for the sixth wicket and see the 200 up.

Jenkin was dismissed by Ryan Eddy for 101, made off exactly 100 balls with a six and 15 fours.

His relative shepherded the tail to make 42 which also included a six.

Ludgvan were hampered with the loss of opening bowler Nathan Pobega after just 3.5 overs and fielded with ten men.

Damon Nicholls, Michael Fitchett, Ryan Edwards and Scott Stevens took two wickets.

The hosts got off to a reasonable start despite losing Kyle Stevens to Steve Eddy without a run on the board.

Pobega made 17 and Jordan Marsden 18 as they got to 119-3 before the innings collapsed as they lost six wickets for just 15 runs, with Helston captain Jenkin making up for his disappointment with the bat by claiming figures of four for seven while Gavin Tregenza ended with three for 30).

This damage inflicted on Ludgvan meant they were all out for 148 in the 43rd over, with Damon Nicholls making 26 and opener Scott Stevens 51, which included eight fours.
