ST Gluvias toppled Mawnan in a Twenty20 game on Thursday evening just a fortnight after losing in the same format to their near neighbours.

When the teams met on May 19 in the Mining Division Evening League, Mawnan came out on top with a six wicket win.

However, this time round the Penryn club's second team eased to a 91 run victory in the Andrew Cup second round encounter, scoring 169-3 batting first before reducing the villagers to 78-8 at Kernick Road.

Early wickets fell in the visitors' innings as a blistering spell of fast bowling from Lewis Pegrum saw him pick up four scalps in his five over blast.

This paved the way for victory after the hosts set up a difficult target to chase down with Jack Hesketh hitting seven fours and a six in his 48.

Skipper Richard Bannister scored 36 to give the innings a good start as he and fellow opener Chris Johnson, who was bowled for 21, compiled a half century partnership.

Sam Duckham and Sam Kruse finished unbeaten on 27 and 17 respectively with the three wickets being shared evenly between Oliver Bennett-Hughes, Neil Bennett-Hughes and Zac Nancholas.

Mawnan struggled to make the eight-and-a-half runs they needed each over in their reply to stand a chance of winning.

Alongside Pegrum, Duckham opened up the bowling and picked a wicket with the away side seeing their first five batsmen fall with just 32 runs on the board.

With the game effectively over as a contest, the match petered out under the Cornish sunset.

In the quarter finals, the Saints will play Gulval seconds away after they beat Helston seconds by five runs.

Elsewhere in the second round, Wendron progressed after beating Mt Hawke by four runs in a low scoring game.

The hosts made 96-6 at Underlane with Mark Mitchell hitting 42 before Ryan Mitchell bowled Chris Madeley off the last ball of the match, with the visitors needing a six to win.

Wendron will play Mt Ambrose, who beat Stithians seconds by three wickets, at home in the quarter finals.

The other ties in the last eight see Camborne thirds take on Hayle seconds and Penzance seconds host Perranarworthal.

All four games will be played on June 25 and start at 6.30pm.
