A HIGH scoring match at Kernick Road eventually fell the way of Beacon in County Division One on Saturday.

The visitors were bowled out at the end of the 50th over for 278 and despite putting up a good fight, St Gluvias were unable to reach their target as they fell 21 runs short.

With 20 points in the bag, Beacon were able to jump into third place while the Saints, who collected ten bonus points in the defeat, dropped down to third bottom.

St Gluvias skipper Jon Udy elected to bowl first after winning the toss, hopeful of making dents early on to the visitors’ batting line-up.

But opening pair James Gool and Robert Trembath put on 118 runs for the first wicket before the latter was given out lbw off Udy’s bowling for a 52-ball 60, with nine fours and a six.

Gool also made a half century, at a slower pace, before recent Saints signing Philip Bostock picked up his first of three wickets at as Jack Gleadowe caught him for 54, with the score on 185-4.

Between Trembath’s and Gool’s wickets, Richard Kellow had removed Daniel Mellor for a duck and Larry Martin for eight.

Both runs and wickets kept coming came at a steady pace for the remainder of the innings as Udy picked up three more wickets to end with figures of 4-50 while away wicketkeeper Matt Floyd scored 37.

Some Valuable lower order runs were added by Daniel Thurgood, who whacked 32 off 19 balls, finding the boundary six times with two maximums among them.

In total, 61 extras were conceded by the hosts, 31 of them wides, which would be a figure they would left to rue at the end.

St Gluvias made a solid enough start to their reply with Scott Kellow and Jake Preston opening up with a 55-run partnership.

This came to a halt though when Thurgood, fresh from his blast with the bat, got Preston out for 37.

Runs in the middle order were contributed by Matt Julian as the number five batsman smashed 74 off just 49 balls, with eight fours and three sixes.

However, support did not come into force until Ryan Dallimore came to the crease with the host’s eighth batsman scoring 38 not out off 44 balls.

By the time the tail was mopped up, the Saints were on 257 with Robert Hocking finishing with figures of 3-53 and Gareth Mankee 3-54.
