CAPTAIN Sean Hooper will be on the sidelines for at least five weeks after fracturing his left arm during Falmouth's four wicket win over Werrington on Saturday.

His injury sustained during his innings of eight was the only dampener on a day which saw the Green & Golds pull off a fantastic victory against the early pace setters in the Cornwall Cricket Premier League.

After four wickets from Glyn Furnival helped keep Werrington down to 246, a 68 ball century from Christian Purchase saw the visitors pick up 20 points.

It was a second successive league defeat for the North Cornwall club and just 31 points separate all ten teams at the third way mark of the season, with just eight covering the top five.

Furnival struck early to remove Simon Green for two and Antony Angove had Nick Lawson caught out at 15-2.

Mark Gribble made 30, but George Popperwell got his wicket and followed up swiftly by getting Ben Smeeth for a duck.

When Adam Hodgson was caught by Harry Roberts off Jordan Thomas for 15, the home side were stuttering at 116-5, but then Alex Smeeth hit 13 fours and a six to score 81 with good support from Paul Smith, 27, and Sam Hockin, 26.

They were all out for 246 in the 51st over with Furnival taking four for 62, Thomas two for 27 from nine overs and Popperwell two for 57 from ten.

After Callum Whittaker went cheaply and Hooper retired, a second wicket stand set Falmouth on their way.

Angove made 49 before being LBW to Ian Worsnip at 148-2, which then prompted a mini collapse as Stefan Churcher followed for two and Roberts for a second ball duck.

Craig Mouatt became a fourth Worsnip victim in quick succession at 157-5, as the alarm bells started ringing.

Purchase stood firm however and reached his century, hitting 102 off 68 balls with two sixes and 14 fours before being sixth out at 193.

There was still work to do but Guy Leathley, 31 not out, and Thomas, 26 not out, secured a worthy win with nine overs to spare.

Worsnip took five for 49 from 11 overs.

Falmouth host second placed St Austell on Saturday.
