Premier League outfit, Penzance Cricket Club, have bolstered their playing squad with the addition of South African right-arm fast bowler, Chad Fortune, as their overseas player for the 2016 season.

Fortune has previously represented South Africa Under 19s, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Province and the Dolphins franchise – taking best first-class figures of 5-86.

The 24 year-old hails from the prestigious Wynberg College – a school that have produced no less than 55 first-class and 10 international cricketers, including the legendary Jacques Kallis.

Such was Fortune’s talent, he bypassed provincial cricket to enjoy a taste of the First Class scene, debuting for the Dolphins, courtesy of his eye-catching national exploits.

He impressed on his debut in March 2011, claiming economical figures of 1-28 and opening the attack alongside current Proteas star, Kyle Abbott.

Penzance’s Director of Cricket Development and fellow countryman, Greg Smith, is buoyed by the arrival of a player of Fortune’s calibre: “It’s great to have Chad on board; he’s a skilful bowler that has represented South Africa at U19 level and he’s hungry for more success. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Having spent last season plying his trade in Hertfordshire with Berkhamsted Cricket Club, amassing an impressive 50 wickets with the ball and 461 runs with the bat, Fortune will be hoping to emulate his fine form at St Clare in 2016, alongside fellow new recruits Christian Purchase, Ant Angove and Greg Smith.

Fortune is set to join up with Penzance on April 13, ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly at Exmouth later that week.
