As part of the Dales Cornwall sponsorship of Cornish Cricket this year, cricketers across the county have been competing for the Dales Cup.

The trophy is awarded to the batsman who hits the most sixes during the course of the season.  Matt Butler of Ladock CC emerged as the top “six hitter” by some distance, clearing the boundary ropes no less than 74 times and hitting almost twice the number of sixes as his nearest rival.

Matt is pictured receiving the Dales Cup from Bobby Vanderplank (Marketing Manager at Dales) at last weekend’s Cornwall Motor Show at Heartlands. Bobby said: “Congratulations to Matt on a convincing Dales Cup win.  I am really pleased that the competition has been such a big hit!”. Also pictured at the presentation is Chris Fyles (Director of Finance, Cornwall Cricket).

Simon Menneer (CEO Cornwall Cricket) said: “The Dales Cup has been a real success story and the six hit challenge has quickly become an exciting part of the cricketing summer in the Duchy.  My thanks go to the Dales team for their fantastic support of Cornwall Cricket this year.”

The Dales Cup is part of a wider partnership between Dales and Cornwall Cricket. Dales has been showcasing some of its new Vauxhall, Renault, Dacia, Seat and Suzuki cars during matches at some of the county’s cricket grounds throughout the summer.

Over the winter, Dales will continue to work with Cornwall Cricket to promote current offers through the Cornwall Cricket Indoor League, via the League’s 70 League Clubs, the Board’s web-site, the regular “Supporter” newsletters (which go out to almost 5,000 subscribers on the Cornwall Cricket database) and via Social Media.

Notes to Editors

Cornwall Cricket Board is the umbrella organisation for Cornish Cricket, being responsible for promoting the development of cricket within the County and working with the various entities which administer the sport on a day to day basis.

The Board’s work ranges from the coaching of potential new cricketers at school and pre-school levels to promoting Women’s and Girls cricket, supporting Disability cricket as well as helping to fund Age Group cricket and the individual Clubs and Associations.  The Board retains over 40 specialist cricket coaches but also relies heavily on both the volunteer community and local fundraising campaigns to keep the sport afloat within the County.  There are over 2,500 registered cricket players in Cornwall with at least the same number of officials, volunteers and supporters across the 69 Clubs in the Duchy.  The specialist Cricket Centre in Truro attracts an annual footfall of over 13,000.
