Beacon have capped off a fine winter with the signing of Ben James from Praze for the 2018 season.

Securing promotion back to County 1 at the first time of asking in 2017, Beacon's committee has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure the club's future with investment in facilities and significant growth in its youth section this winter.

The signing of James further strengthens the club’s on-field ambitions for the forthcoming season.

Top order batsman and leg spin bowler James, has been a consistent performer in Division 2 West for a number of years, solidifying his position as one of the top five batsmen in the league in recent years, and a top ten bowler with best figures of 5/9 in 2017.

Beacon Captain Craig Thomas said: "We are delighted to welcome Ben to the club for the 2018 season.

He is a young, talented all-rounder that that has performed consistently with bat and ball for a number of years, he will certainly strengthen our side and we hope he will become a key part of our club for many years to come.”

Ben James (19), who will join Beacon for pre-season training on his return from Swansea University in March said: “I can’t wait to get along to training and settle into the squad, it was nice to hear Beacon were interested in signing me and I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing County 1 cricket.”

Beacon's first team squad will kick off their 2018 campaign with a pre-season friendly at Premier League new boys Camborne on 17th of June.

“We’ve enjoyed a hard pre-season and the game at Camborne will be a real test for us ahead of making the step back up to County 1” said Craig.

“We're hoping for some improvement in the weather of the next few weeks and the guys can’t wait to get going.”
