Cornwall Women suffered their first defeat of their 2018 County Championship campaign at Falmouth on Sunday.

Despite the loss the team are still top of Division 3 Group B after earlier wins over Netherlands, Wiltshire and Dorset.

Cornwall won the toss and elected to bat and were dealt an early blow when opener Caitlin Burnett was dismissed without scoring off eight balls.

Ellie Mitchell (11) was next to go but Amber Cummins (27) and Sophie Richards (49) struck up a 37-run partnership before the former was caught out.

Richards eventually finished on 49 off 122 balls, while Rebecca Odgers contributed 22 to the cause as the home side finished on 142-6.

Netherlands put the hosts on the back foot immediately at the start of their innings, as De Leede (36) and Jolien Van Vliet (22) raced towards the half-century before the latter’s dismissal.

Bowler Kellie Williams did her best for Cornwall, claiming De Leede, Van Vliet, Cher Van Slobbe (6) Heather Siegers (15) and Juliet Post (10) for a superb 5-24, but she was unable to stop the visitors as they reached their target in the 41st over.
