Helston maintained top spot in division two with a three wicket home win over Redruth seconds.

Understandably conditions weren’t easy and it was an achievement to get the game on following the recent heavy rain, in the miserable summer to date.

Guy Leathley bowled with maturity on a pitch which saw the spinners difficult to get away and got his just rewards with figures of six for 30 from 11.4 overs.

Redruth made a good fist of it to get to 73 before losing their third wicket.

The total got a late boost from Caleb Rowe who hit three sixes in his 30 off 29 balls. Leathley picked up four of the last five wickets, that fell in a hurry for just 14 runs. Helston then lost Justin Matthews early with only eight on the board.

Dan Jenkin and Chris Martin appeared to set about the total with relative ease. Martin went for 21 with the score at 43 and was soon followed by Josh Ninnis, who was run out for two. Leathley and Jenkin added a patient 60 for the fourth wicket to turn the game in Helston’s favour.

Jenkin was bowled by Ben Page for 46 made off 105 balls, a real captain’s innings in the conditions.

Steve Hosking saw his side over the line with 11 not out with nine balls to spare. There was a late scare with Leathley (25), Mark Jenkin and Tom Retallack all being dismissed in quick succession.

Tyler Lambert was undefeated on four. Helston travel to fifth placed St Just seconds on Saturday.
