Falmouth went down to defeat at Callington on Saturday by 39 runs.

As a result they have dropped a place to fourth in the table with St Austell moving above them.

Callington are seventeen points ahead at the top having moved clear of Werrington. The game was interrupted by showers and eventually reduced to an 88 over game.

The home side’s prolific opening county pairing of Matt Robins and Jake Libby put on 67 for the first wicket. The breakthrough came when Libby was caught and bowled by George Popperwell for 17.

Justin Stephens then got the key wicket of Robins, having him caught behind by Keiran Rodda for 39.

Stephens then got rid of Sam Higgins for a duck and Mpho Selowa was bowled for 13. All of a sudden the hosts had lost three wickets for three runs and were 86 for four.

The innings was recovered with Andrew Libby and Joe White putting on 81 for the fifth wicket. As the overs ran out Jon Udy got three quick wickets.

He had Joe White caught for 31 and then removed Aidan Libby and Chris Davies for ducks. The final wicket fell of the last ball of the innings. Andrew Libby hit 45 not out to see the total to 168 for seven. Stephens took three for 21 and Udy three for 39.

Aidan Libby struck twice to reduce Falmouth to 22 for three. He bowled Adrian Noott without a run on the board. Chris Farndon, making his seasonal first team debut, was caught behind off Davies for 13.

Aidan Libby then got the important wicket of Stephens for a single. With Antony Angove missing from the middle order Stefan Churcher and Udy more than doubled the score but at 49 Churcher was dismissed by Jim Shorten for 13. Richard Kellow made 19 but was one of four victims for left arm spinner Andrew Libby.

Udy kept Falmouth in the game with 58 not out but he ran out of support as the last four wickets fell for 25 runs. Jim Shorten took the final wicket with 22 balls remaining.

Andrew Libby destroyed the middle order taking four for 22 from ten overs to complete a fine game. Falmouth visit St Austell on Saturday who are unbeaten in the league so far. E lsewhere last weekend there were some tense finishes. Paul beat Camborne by just eight runs and a 35 run ninth wicket stand saw Truro defeat Grampound Road by two wickets.

The St Austell against Werrington game was drawn with Werrington twelve runs short of victory, with three wickets remaining. It was more clear cut at Troon where St Just won by 91 runs with the prolific David Roberts hitting his fourth century of the so called summer.
