England women levelled the one-day series versus India thanks to a three-wicket win with an over to spare at Truro.

The game was part of a four-day cricket festival in Cornwall.

England's victory, on Sunday, has set up a decider at Wormsley on Wednesday.

Following a delayed start and Charlotte Edwards winning the toss, the hosts’ bowlers again excelled to limit India, who won the first two games, to 54 for two in the 23rd over after Katherine Brunt trapped Mona Meshram in front and Jenny Gunn had Poonam Raut caught behind by Sarah Taylor.

However, visiting captain Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur added 86 inside 20 overs for the third wicket, making 58 and 55 respectively.

Yet Raj’s wicket, caught behind by Taylor off Danni Wyatt, started a slide as India lost seven wickets for just 28 runs to be restricted to 173 for nine.

Arran Brindle removed Amita Sharma and then Sulakshana Naik and Reema Malhotra in successive balls in her next over to complete figure of 3-20 off five overs.

Kaur and Jhulan Goswami were run out by Brindle and Holly Colvin in consecutive overs before Wyatt, who took 2-43, bowled Gouher Sultana as India stuttered.

Home openers Tammy Beaumont and Edwards fell cheaply, but Taylor rebuilt with 43 and shared a stand of 60 alongside Lydia Greenway.

Greenway’s departure for 24 after Taylor’s - both to Nagarajan Niranjana who claimed 3-24 from 10 - left England’s 92 for four in the 30th over.

Still, Heather Knight made 24 and, despite Wyatt departing for six, 36 not out from Gunn ensured victory.

Player of the match Gunn said: "It was a good team performance today, there were contributions from everyone. Arran Brindle and Danni Wyatt pulled things back with the ball for us to hold them to 173 and everyone chipped in well with the bat.

"It was really good to do my job and finish the game off. Katherine Brunt made it look quite easy when she cleared the ropes and we were both pleased to finish it off before the last over.

"We're really grateful to everyone at Truro Cricket Club for their hard work, they did a fantastic job to get us on the pitch today. The final match of the series at Wormsley on Wednesday should be an exciting game as it will decide the series."
