One of the most disappointing of summers for cricket in recent history took another turn for the worst on Saturday as the weather all but washed out the local programme.

Only seven of the 76 games across the county were played.

All five ECB Cornwall Premier League games were called off on Saturday morning following the torrential overnight rain, on top of a record breaking June rainfall.

They included Falmouth’s visit to St Austell with the players not even travelling, such were the conditions at Wheal Eliza. Speaking this week Falmouth skipper Adrian Noott was quite satisfied on the season as a whole.

He said “We reach the half way mark on Saturday with the visit of Paul (1pm). Compared to last season we are well placed and I hope we remain competitive during the second half of the season and see where we end up.”

He added: “Due to the weather the League has yet to take any real direction with a number of clubs still in contention.

“So far 19 of the 40 Premier games have been weather affected and failed to reach conclusions. Falmouth remain in fourth spot, 17 points behind the leaders Callington.”
