Falmouth Town 0 Witheridge 2

Falmouth Town's miserable season continued at Bickland Park on Saturday with defeat against in-form Witheridge.

Two second half goals, one from the penalty spot and another from a set piece, condemned manager John Dent's side to their fifteenth defeat of the season, leaving them just five points above bottom club Liskeard in the SWPL premier division.

After a bright opening both sides missed chances to take the lead, with Kyle Bassett firing straight at the legs of Town keeper Danny Burrows, and Falmouth midfielder Dan Richardson hitting the post with a volley from the egde of the box.

After the break Witheridge improved and began to put Town under pressure, but even then chances were few and far between - Bassett's clipped effort which Burrows palmed out for a corner being the best of the bunch.

The first goal came just after the hour mark when a Witheridge player had his heels clipped on the edge of the box, and referee Chris Stevens pointed to the spot.

Witheridge captain Steve Ebdy stepped up to plant his spot kick straight down the middle.

Ed Timmons had a volley saved by visiting keeper Joe Tickle, who also made a good stop from Richardson and later Trevaskis, making his debut for Falmouth as a second half replacement for Andy Westgarth.

But the visitors landed the killer blow after Falmouth had conceded a free kick deep in their own half on the right wing.

A ball whipped into the six yard box found Bassett, who planted his header past Burrows leaving the keeper no chance, and making sure of all three points.
