WAYNE Hughes’ time as caretaker boss of Falmouth Town got off to a blistering start with a 3-0 win away at Callington Town.

The Ambers secured just their second victory in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division this season thanks to goals from skipper Joe Cooper and two from Harry Evans.

Hughes has taken charge of the side on a temporary basis while the club search for a new manager after John Dent’s resignation on October 15.

Following Saturday’s result, suggestions have been made regarding Hughes taking the job on a permanent basis.

However, the man who has stepped up from the hot seat with Town’s reserve side said he is focused on the football for now.

“To be honest, I haven’t even thought about taking the job permanently,” Hughes admitted to the Packet.

“All I’m trying to do is keep the ship steady on the pitch and allow the club to sort things out off the field themselves.

“I am really happy with the way the guys played at Callington.

“We wanted to concentrate on our positives and getting out the boys what they can do and that is what we did.”

Cooper opened the scoring the second half when he headed home Ryan Chinn’s cross before Evans doubled the lead with a cross-turned-shot.

The club’s top goalscorer of the season added his second in the last few minutes with a fantastic lob over the keeper from the edge of the box.
