FALMOUTH Town’s reserves maintained their recent run of good form with a 1-0 win in the Jolly’s Combination League Cup on Saturday.

A penalty from Luke Appleton just before half time proved to be enough for the Ambers to knockout Illogan RBL Reserves at Bickland Park and move into the quarter final stage of the competition.

The hosts had the better start out of the two teams with Steve Owen and Ben Allen both going close early on.

RBL still had their chances though and it took an excellent double save by Jamie Gray to the deadlock unbroken as Dwayne Britton got his sights on Town’s goal.

As half time approached, a clumsy challenge brought down Steve Retchford and the referee pointed at the penalty spot.

Appleton stepped up in place of usual taker Dominic Pullen, who was sidelined through injury, and he made no mistake.

Owen and Allen both had opportunities to double Town’s lead in the second half but could not find the target.

Although RBL battled to the end, Falmouth’s defence remained fairly untroubled and closed out the game.

The rest of the second round games will be played on November 22.
