CLINICAL finishing is where Falmouth Town need to improve according to their assistant manager Gary Pascoe.

On Saturday the Ambers did not trouble the scoreboard operators for a third South West Peninsula League Premier game in a row as they lost 2-0 at Plymouth Parkway.

However, despite the defeat, it was another promising performance from Town under their leadership of Wayne Hughes who took over the manager’s role last week.

Parkway who are the defending division champions were forced to work hard by Falmouth and required a bundled in shot on the stroke of half time and a late penalty to secure three points.

Pascoe, who has been assistant manager at Bickland Park since July 2013, said the signs are promising at the club, but they need to sharpen up in front of goal.

Pascoe said: “There were a lot of positives to take out of Saturday’s game.

“It is always difficult to go to Parkway but we managed to keep on top of them for the majority of the match.

“What showed on Saturday is that we are lacking a bit of extra spark in the final third and that is something we need to sort out.

“I know seven day approaches have been made on two or three players, so hopefully that is something which will be rectified.”

The hosts had several chances in the first half to take the lead but could not get off the mark until injury time when from a corner, Danny Lewis headed the ball past Jason Peters.

Shortly after the restart, Town striker Kayne Trevaskis carved out the best chance for his side when he hit a volley which seemed to be sailing into the top corner.

But with everyone expecting to see the ball fly in, Parkway goalkeeper Josh Colwill pulled of a stunning save to prevent an equaliser.

With 12 minutes left the game was put out of Town’s reach when Peters brought down Andrew Neal in the box.

A penalty was awarded which Will Stringer converted.

Next up for Falmouth is a home game against Torpoint Athletic, who sit three places above them in the table.

Looking ahead to the fixture, Pascoe said it is very important Town find their goalscoring touch against them.

“We are looking to get points out of the Torpoint game,” he said.

“Recently we have put in decent performances against top sides and that should give us confidence against a side a bit lower down in the table.

“If we want to push ourselves away from the foot of the table, we have to beat sides around us and Torpoint are in that category.”
