GLEN Squires said getting a goal for Falmouth Town against his former side was a “good feeling”.

The forward scored from the penalty spot on Saturday as the Ambers travelled to Newquay in the South West Peninsula League Premier.

His strike helped the visitors return from Mount Wise with a 2-1 win, their second in a row.

In November, Squires joined Town for his third spell with the club after leaving the club for the Peppermints during the summer.

After scoring, the 30-year-old said: “Whenever you play against people you know or teams you used to play for, you always try a bit harder and try to do yourself justice.

“Obviously because I have only recently left them, I'm sure Newquay didn't want me scoring against them, which adds a little extra gloss to the goal.

“That said, I do only have positive thoughts for both Newquay and Falmouth.”

His strike partner Kayne Trevaskis who went close to opening the scoring for Falmouth just before the half hour mark when he sent a shot just wide after being put through.

However, it would not be long before the deadlock was broken by Town when after a long ball was thumped into the host's penalty area, Sam Cooper handballed to give a spot-kick away.

This opportunity was grasped by Squires, who confidently fired the ball into the net.

Defender Tom Whipp also went close to scoring for the visitors, but could only blast a shot off target.

Newquay got back into the game though when Josh Fearon scored from what had actually appeared to have been an attempted cross, with the ball getting past Jason Peters.

The visitors did not wilt though despite seeing a freakish equaliser going in and with eight minutes remaining they secured all three points.

Substitute Dan Evans sent a cross into the box which met the head of Rob Wearne, who had also come off the bench for Town, with the forward getting his effort on target.

Before the game was up, Newquay were reduced to ten men when Cooper was shown a second yellow card.
