CHRIS Wormington said he is excited to be moving up a level after his move from Porthleven to Falmouth Town was confirmed.

The 18-year-old right back has made the switch to the South West Peninsula League Premier side after spending the two years playing at Gala Parc.

It is expected Wormington will fill the gap left by Nick Hurst, who has left Bickland Park in favour of Bodmin Town.

Earlier this year, Wormington travelled to Texas as part of Truro College's team at the Dallas Cup who were coached by Gary Pascoe, Town's current assistant manager.

Speaking to the Packet, he said getting the chance to work with Pascoe and club manager Wayne Hughes was a big draw, along with the chance to play in a higher division.

Wormington said: "Obviously it is going to be a bit of a challenge with the step up in league and already in training I've noticed it is tougher and more intense.

"But having worked with Gary before with Truro College, I know how good a coach he is and the work Wayne has done at Falmouth since coming has been great.

"I knew a few of the players at Falmouth and they all told me how brilliant Wayne is as a manager and since arriving, I have seen this first hand.

"Falmouth have been in a few relegation scraps in recent years, but I've dealt with the same at Porthleven so I'm not afraid of that and there is a good squad coming together, so I'm excited about the future."

Reflecting on his time with the Fishermen, Wormington praised the club, saying he did feel sad to be leaving.

He added the opportunity given to him by former manager Dennis Annear benefitted his development on the pitch "massively".

"Getting the game time I did at Porthleven has really helped me," Wormington said.

"Dennis Annear gave me a chance at Porthleven and it has helped develop my tactical brain and other mental aspects.

"It is a great club with the best pitch around and everyone there is lovely, so it is quite sad to leave, but I will keep my eye out for the results and pop down to watch whenever I can."

Another player who has joined the Ambers is forward Harley Westlake, who has signed from fellow SWPL Premier outfit Camelford.

Moving away from Town are Kayne Trevaskis and Josh Sims, with both players agreeing deals with St Blazey for next season.

In another transfer confirmed on Friday, George Molcher will be moving to Port from local rivals Helston Athletic.
