FALMOUTH Town stay in the South West Peninsula League Premier top five after a 0-0 draw with Launceston - but will feel aggrieved not have got more points.

Andrew Westgarth's side spurned a massive opportunity to bag a third win the season as they failed to capitalise on their visitors going down to nine men after James Robertson and Chris Head sent off.

Despite their significant numerical advantage, the Ambers could not find a way past Ollie Chenoweth in Launceston's goal and had to settle for a single point.

Even though Westgarth said he was annoyed by the end result, he went onto say there are some good notes to take from the game at Bickland Park.

Westgarth said: "It was disappointing not to get three points, especially after Launceston went down to nine men.

"However, we do have some positives to take out of the match such as keeping a third clean sheet in a row and continuing our good start, so we have plenty to build on."

Joe Lasper nearly opened the scoring early on for the visitors as they made a good start to the game.

But proceedings were turned on their head in the first half when Robertson brought down player-manager Westgarth just outside the box.

He was the last man back and referee Adam Price brandished a red card.

Launceston tried to make themselves hard to break down after this, although Luke Tripconey managed to test out the defence a couple of times with shots.

The best chance for Town came from Westgarth as he rounded the goalkeeper and got a shot away, only to see Dave Smith block his shot on the line.

Things looked incredibly bleak for the away side when in the 67th minute Head was shown a second yellow card, forcing them to see out the rest of the game with nine.

Town looked to captialise but Harry Clarke was denied by a wonderful save by Chenoweth before Mike Vanes saw his effort go agonisingly wide of the post.

Last night, after the Packet went to press, Falmouth visited Camelford and on Friday evening they host Newquay.
