Falmouth Town opened their CSWPL premier division season by fighting back from two goals down to earn a draw with Torpoint.

In a goalless first half, Falmouth had the slight edge over their opponents with Jamie Devine and Dan Richardson going close to opening the scoring.

However, a mistake from Kirk Davies at the start of the second half let in former Falmouth Town player Darren Hicks to curl a shot around goalkeeper Jason Chapman to give Torpoint the lead.

The away side then doubled their advantage when some weak tackling on the edge of the Falmouth box saw Liam Thornton drill a shot across Chapman and into the left hand corner of the net.

Falmouth battled hard, but were struggling to create the chances they needed to get back into the match as the game entered the final stages.

However, captain Mark Vercesi curled a brilliant 30-yard free-kick into the top corner of the net to get them back into the match.

Then deep into injury time, Vercesi was pushed in the back on the egde of the Torpoint area. The linesman signalled for a free-kick and Wayne Quinn stepped up to curl a shot through the Torpoint wall and into the net.

Falmouth team: Jason Chapman, Kirk Davies, Jamie Webb, Wayne Quinn, Jamie Devine, Ross Pope, Dan Richardson, Mark Vercesi, Dan Magee, Andy Westgarth, Rob Wearne. Subs used: Karl Turner, Casper Lewis, Bradley Wills.
