HELSTON Athletic grabbed a sweet victory over South West Peninsula League West rivals Illogan RBL on Saturday in the Walter C Parson Cup.

Mark Goldsworthy's double and an early header from Charlie Young handed the Blues a 3-1 win in the second round of the competition.

The match was the third meeting between the sides in the season, with Helston winning the first by the same scoreline on August 30.

However, RBL turned he tables on September 27 when they beat Helston 3-0. 

Young opened the scoring in the seventh minute when he flicked a header goalwards after Mikey Davies' free kick.

Goldsworthy made it 2-0 in the 14th minute when he turned a defender before slotting home.

Helston dominated possession in the first half and in the early stages of the second, with Goldsworthy adding the third score on the hour mark from the penalty spot.

RBL got back into the game four minutes later when Dan Richards stroked home a shot inside he six yard box, but the visitors were unable to breach a stiff home defence again.
