SID Taylor said his Helston Athletic side have to find a way of dealing with their indifferent recent form.

After winning eight games on the bounce to open up the 2014/15 season, the Blues have lost three out of their last six games.

All of these have come in South West Peninsula League West action against Penryn Athletic, Illogan RBL and Sticker, teams also hunting for promotion.

After requiring extra time to beat Wendron United on Saturday in the Cornwall Charity Cup, Taylor said Athletic were just happy to win and get through to the quarter finals.

He went onto say the side have to get out of their current rut, adding new players could be coming in soon.

Taylor said: “It is a bit tough at the moment because we have three or four players out each week and the same amount coming back in, but we have a big squad and we have to deal with it.

“We are in the process of bringing in a couple of lads, one from Portugal and another from South Africa, but they we are waiting for their international clearance to be cleared by the FA.

“Hopefully this will happen in the next couple of weeks, but I am still unsure whether they’ll go into the first or second team.

“Winning in the cup is a bit of a relief for us from the league as we needed a bit of cheering up as we have lost three of our last four matches in that competition.”

He also praised his side’s opponents from Saturday, saying he thinks Dron would be fine if they were promoted from the Jolly’s Combination League.

“I thought they came here and played well,” Taylor said.

“They have one or two players who have been involved at a higher level and also they have some good Combination League players.

“I think they are quite similar to us in terms of style, but they would probably have to add a bit of depth and quality in their squad if they did come up.

“But overall I think they would be OK in our league.”
