WAYNE Hughes has said he is on the look-out for quality players to bring into Falmouth Town’s squad after becoming the manager.

The man who had been in charge of the Bickland Park club’s reserves before stepping into the first team dugout on a temporary basis after John Dent resigned on October 15.

Since coming in as caretaker manager, Hughes has seen the Ambers win once, away at Callington Town 3-0, and lose three times.

Despite the fortunes of the club not seeming to change in recent weeks, performances from the South West Peninsula League Premier side have shown promising improvements, leading to Hughes appointment.

Having been given the job on a permanent basis, he said the plan is to keep Town up in the league and also work on making changes to the squad.

Speaking to the Packet, Hughes said: “I am proud to have taken over as this is my hometown club and despite what has happened recently, they are still a massive club locally.

“For me now I can start looking at building the team I want, as until I was given the job permanently I could not really do anything like that.

“From what I’ve seen since being in temporary charge, the lads have given 100 per cent which I cannot fault, but I think what is apparent is that we are lacking a bit of quality needed to compete in this league.

“I am now busy looking at who I can bring in to boost the squad and hopefully by Christmas we can shape something to move us forward.”

With the side sat in 15th position in the table with just two wins to their name so far this season, Hughes said he knows the job will be a tough one.

But he went onto say he is happy to take on the task of keeping Town up.

“It is going to be hard, that is something I appreciate,” Hughes said.

“The club’s start to the season has been dire and I have effectively inherited a team which I will basically have to go through another pre-season process with as I look to make changes and start again.

“However, it is a challenge I am really up for and am ready for.”
