HARRY Evans said he is happy to have signed for St Austell – although it is tough to say goodbye to Falmouth Town.

The teenager signed a deal with the club currently third in the South West Peninsula League Premier Division on Monday after several weeks of speculation surrounding his future at Bickland Park.

In a so far disappointing season for Town, Evans has been their star performer.

Despite being offered the chance to join at Poltair Park, he admitted to took him the best part of a month to make his decision.

But now he has signed, Evans said he is looking forward to being with the new team.

Evans told the Packet: “It is a good feeling to be going to St Austell as they are one of the top sides in Cornwall at the moment.

“I am sad to leave Falmouth because I love the club and the fans and it is a very good club who have done a lot for me and I think they will turn their season around.

“It took me three weeks to come to this decision, but I felt I needed a change and this was an offer which was too good to refuse.

“I hope to learn from the quality players who will be around me at Poltair, but Falmouth will always be my hometown club and I’ve been told if the move doesn’t work out, the door is open for me here.”

Town’s new permanent manager Wayne Hughes said he was sad to see Evans go, but appreciated why the move has taken place.

Hughes said: “I think if I had a bit more time with him I could have got him to stay.

“But I think Harry had already had enough and he is young and wants to win things, so it is a good move for him.

“He has been brilliant for us this season and I hope he has a good time at St Austell.”
