A LATE penalty by star striker Jordan Annear handed three points to Porthleven in their South West Peninsula League West clash against Dobwalls.

The score four minutes from time secured a 3-2 victory on Saturday which had seen the Fishermen take the lead twice only to see equalisers bagged by Dan Lawrence and Ash Piggott.

It provided sweet revenge for Port as a month earlier the Lantoom Park outfit had knocked Dennis Annear’s men out of the Cornwall Senior Cup second round with a 4-2 win.

Despite the heavy rainfall overnight, the Gala Parc pitch was in immaculate condition thanks to the hard graft of Cosy Powell and Ian Lewis, so the match was one of only three in the division which was not postponed.

Port started the day without defender Dan Tarrant through suspension and injured midfielder Jed McCardie with Tom Heywood and Matt Best taking their places.

Recent signing from Penryn Athletic Elliot Jorey was also included in the starting 11 and helped create the match’s first chance when he set up Chris Wormington, who headed his chance over.

A lead was established by the hosts 16 minutes in though as Liam Hunter’s corner was met by the head of Jack Coleman who ran in from the left with Dean Smith unable to stop the ball hitting the back of the net.

Dobwalls responded almost immediately though as four minutes later Lawrence stabbed home a shot after a goalmouth scramble.

Pressure was applied again by Port for the remainder of the half, but they had to wait until after the break to regain the advantage.

Annear went early into the second half as Smith deflected a shot away from goal with his legs.

But on the hourmark substitute Kyle Frazer, playing his last game before heading back to his studies in the USA, made it 2-1 with his first touch since coming on.

Coleman set up the chance with a superb run down the right flank before sending in a low cross which Frazer turned home.

Benji Bryant was called into action as he made a wonderful double point blank save to keep his side ahead.

However, another leveller was bagged by the visitors nine minutes from time when Piggott spotted Bryant off his line and lobbed the goalkeeper from about 25 yards out.

Just as it looked like the hosts had dropped a couple of points, smiles were restored to Port faces in the 86th minute when Smith conceded a penalty after bringing down Annear.

The away goalkeeper was only shown yellow despite being the last man, but he did not stop Annear from firing the spot-kick past him.

On Saturday, Port travel to Bude Town who sit just one place above them in the league table.
