CHARLIE Young said is happy to be back at Helston Athletic after taking a break away from Kellaway Park.

Last month the midfielder left the South West Peninsula League West club saying there were “problems” which needed sorting out.

Since then he has featured for Porthleven’s reserve side who has been dual-registered for four years in the Jolly’s Combination League.

However, the man who has put in a number of good performances for the Blues this season decided to return to them last week and featured in their 5-0 win against Bude Town on Saturday.

Speaking to the Packet, Young said: “I needed a break away from Helston as there were issues which I was unhappy about.

“Now I feel these issues have been resolved and I am glad to be back with the squad and I want to help us fight for promotion to the Premier Division next season.

“I missed the boys a lot and Sid Taylor has stayed in touch ever since I told him I was going to take a break.”

During Young’s brief spell at Port, the club lost twice but won once which came slightly ironically against Athletic’s reserves in the Strike Memorial Cup on Boxing Day.

He said the recent spell was beneficial for him both on and off the pitch.

“I have a lot of mates in the reserve team really want to thank the manager Mark Greet,” Young said.

“I’ve known him for a while now and over the last few weeks he has really helped me.

“It has been good as well to have the chance to keep playing football in order to stay fresh while I made my mind up.”

Athletic’s manager Taylor said he was pleased to see Young back in a Blues shirt.

Taylor added other clubs had been looking to entice the midfielder to them because they know what he brings to any side.

“Obviously it was well documented that he had a few problems here,” he said.

“We have chatted a lot over the last couple of weeks and I am happy Charlie decided the time was right to return.

“You can tell when he plays what a quality player he is and other clubs know that too.

“Since started the break, we had seven day approaches from Porthleven and Illogan as he is one of the best players in this league, so it makes me happier that he has decided to come back to us.”
