WAYNE Hughes feels Falmouth Town can now truly start building for next season after making sure they cannot get relegated.

The Ambers won 6-0 on Saturday at Bovey Tracey with a hat-trick from Glen Squires helping them to their sixth victory in the league of the season.

Since Hughes took charge of the hot seat at Bickland Park in October following John Dent’s resignation, the club have recorded five wins and their latest is the first time they have scored six goals in a match since March 2011.

Another new face will be coming into Town’s squad ahead of their next clash at Exmouth Town as the club announced the signing of 17-year-old midfielder Aiden Killen from St Blazey.

The teenager has represented Cornwall Under 18s and will join other youthful recruits brought in by Hughes like Nick Hurst, Harry Clarke and Scott Kellow.

With Jack Bray-Evans set to join the side next season, Hughes believes there are plenty of reasons for supporters to be optimistic for next season.

Hughes said: “Getting Aiden in is great as he is a really good creative midfielder who has a bright future ahead of him and will add a little extra to our game which perhaps we have been lacking recently.

“I am happy with how a lot of the young guys are going and we even had a scout from Torquay United down on Saturday to watch Nick Hurst, which just shows how highly rated he is.

“Nick has been outstanding for us and when you add in players like Dan Evans, Scott, Aiden and Harry, then it is all looking good.

“It is a big opportunity for the players as there are a lot of clubs around who won’t play them over more experienced guys, but here we believe if you’re good enough you can make an impact in the team.

“They will only get better as well playing with and against more experienced players, so I think we will definitely be stronger next season.”

With their safety in the league confirmed recently, Hughes told the Packet he is delighted to achieve his main target for the campaign.

“When I became manager, the club were desperate just to stay in the division,” he said.

“I wanted to steady the ship and make sure we got to the point where we were guaranteed our place in the Premier division next year.

“We have Exmouth Town coming up next and hopefully the lads will be confident as we got a 0-0 draw with them a few weeks ago.

“Exmouth are one of the top sides in our league, but hopefully we can go in with confidence following the previous game which showed when our guys do their best, they can compete at this level.”
